Paris, France, May 31, 2007—It was "eau de Eiffel Tower" for this scuba diver, who swam in a tank installed under the famous landmark to support tourism, ocean conservation, and the sport of scuba.
The square pool—measuring 52 feet (16 meters) to a side—opened on June 1, 2007 to anyone hoping to get their feet wet in scuba diving, a sport not well known among city-dwellers.
Instructors will provide wetsuits, flippers, masks, and air tanks to interested visitors, who can each take a ten-minute swim in the 4.5-foot-deep (1.5-meter-deep) pool.
The organizers expect to welcome about a hundred people each day.
